At a glance

Artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing requirements engineering - from the elicitation to the management of requirements. In the AI4RE Training you will learn how to use modern AI tools to make your work more efficient and precise. You will understand what is behind concepts such as Prompt Engineering, RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) or Large Language Models and how you can use them sensibly in everyday RE work.

Die Schulung basiert auf dem offiziellen IREB Study Guide and provides you with both the necessary technical understanding and practical application: How AI supports you in interviews, documentation or quality assurance, what risks and limitations you should be aware of, and how to combine human expertise with machine intelligence.

After the course you can use your knowledge in IREB Self-Assessment and show you the AI4RE Micro-Credential secure - a digital badge for your enhanced competence in dealing with artificial intelligence in requirements engineering.

Content of the training

1 AI basics
You will get to know the most important AI technologies and understand how chatbots, RAG and fine-tuning work together.

2. large language models (LLMs)
You will learn how large language models such as GPT or Claude actually work and where their strengths and limitations lie in requirements engineering.

3. prompt engineering
You will discover how to get high-quality results from AI systems with clear prompts and a precise context.

4 Risks and responsibilities
You understand the risks that arise when using AI in RE - from hallucinations to data protection - and how to deal with them responsibly.

5. application scenarios in RE
Using concrete examples, you will see how AI supports you in the collection, documentation, validation and management of requirements.

6 AI terminology
You will refresh your vocabulary and know the most important terms relating to artificial intelligence and requirements engineering.

In practice-oriented exercises and discussions, you will deepen your understanding of the concepts and learn how to apply them successfully in your daily work. At the end of the course, you will be able to massively increase your productivity in requirements engineering activities with the help of AI tools.

Learning objectives of the training

1 AI basics

  • You are familiar with the most important types of AI technologies and know where they can be used effectively in requirements engineering.
  • You understand what happens "behind the scenes" when interacting with a chatbot - including the differences between retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and fine-tuning.

2. large language models (LLMs)

  • You understand how large language models actually work - that they predict text instead of really "understanding" it.
  • You can recognize typical strengths, limitations and risks of LLMs and assess when their use in RE makes sense.

3. prompt engineering

  • You realize how crucial a clear, complete context is to get good results from AI systems.
  • You know proven prompting patterns and techniques (e.g. role-task format, chain-of-thought, zero/few-shot) and use them specifically to achieve better results.

4 Risks and responsibilities

  • You know the most common risks of AI in requirements engineering - such as hallucinations, bias or data protection problems - and can actively manage them.
  • You understand your role as a requirements engineer in an AI-supported process and take responsibility for the verifiable and trustworthy use of AI results.

5. application scenarios in requirements engineering

  • You recognize how AI supports you in all phases of requirements engineering - from elicitation and documentation to validation and management.
  • You can select suitable tools and methods to make your RE activities more efficient and consistent.

6 AI terminology

  • You know the key terms and concepts in the interaction between AI and requirements engineering - from embeddings and context windows to RAG and fine-tuning.
  • You can use these technical terms confidently and understand their meaning in RE projects and in the AI4RE context.

Approach and didactics

Our training is primarily designed to be interactive. Short theoretical blocks are followed by a variety of practice-oriented exercises, which are completed both individually and in small groups. The results are then reflected on collectively.

We focus on lively, inspiring learning and deliberately avoid a tiring "slide battle".

Our focus is on the mutual exchange of knowledge between participants and the long-term, practical benefits of the newly acquired knowledge. The positive feedback from our course participants speaks for itself.

In addition to collaboration boards, slides and exercises, we use gamification elements.

Prerequisites

For successful participation in the course, basic knowledge of requirements engineering is helpful in order to understand the use of AI methods in the right context. To help you place the use of AI methods in the right context, we recommend the course IREB Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering - Foundation Level.

Basic knowledge of information technology and data analysis is also an advantage.

An essential prerequisite is the openness and willingness to engage with new technologies and concepts and to integrate innovative approaches into everyday working life.

Target group

This course is aimed at:

  • Requirement EngineersPeople who capture, analyze and document requirements will benefit from this course as it shows them how to use AI to improve their work.
  • Business Analysts and Business EngineersThis group can use the course to understand how AI tools can support their analysis and requirements.
  • Product EngineersEngineers involved in the development of products learn how AI can optimize their requirements and development processes.
  • Project staffPeople who work in project management and have to set, define or interpret requirements can benefit from the new possibilities offered by AI.
  • System analyst and test managerAll people who specialize in testing will learn how to get efficient support in designing test cases and analyzing the test coverage of AI tools.
  • Software developer and project managerStrengthening skills in requirements management and project planning through the targeted use of AI tools.
  • Quality manager and IT consultantExpanding the understanding of the importance of requirements in quality assurance and using AI tools to optimize these processes.

Certification - IREB AI4RE Micro-Credential

After the training, you have the opportunity to share your knowledge with the IREB AI4RE Micro-Credential to confirm - a digital Micro badge of the International Requirements Engineering Board (IREB).

The micro-credential certifies that you know the basics and how to work responsibly with Artificial intelligence in requirements engineering master.
It is not a classic CPRE certificate, but a Compact proof of your concrete competence in combination with AI and RE - ideal for making your skills visible in your profile or on LinkedIn.

The examination takes place online in the form of a Self-assessmentswhich links directly to the official IREB Study Guide to AI4RE (Artificial Intelligence for Requirements Engineering) based.
After successful completion, you will receive your digital certificate from IREB. AI4RE badge in recognition of your extended AI expertise in RE.

👉 Tip: You can take the online assessment directly after the course - we will teach you everything you need for it.
